My composition comes from a nationality idea. Mix two faces with two different remarkable racial features but with the same nationality (as far as I know). The idea is to mix them in order to say that being British has in fact a wider meaning in comparison what it used to have. It is a reflection about the multicultural society that United Kingdom is living last years and that seems to keep growing and growing.
Therefore, my composition is an image from the future. My image shows the children of the current multiculturalism in UK.
While I was retouching, I decided to leave both clothes -one in each side, in order to let the audience now that is actually a mix, a composition made of two people (although I guess that they will already know as my work with the faces is not that perfect).
We have been showing short films to each other in order to get our ideas understood by all of the members of the group. Each one have shown short films and have explained why are they an example in order to get their ideas. Some of them were an example in terms of genre, the narrative style, the perspective, the use of the sound…. we want to achieve with our ideas.
So, to get an idea about the experimental genre:
And in order to get an idea about how I would like to do my film in terms of the use of the imagery, the non-dialogue, and how to generate the drama and to narrate the story. Even in terms of message I really find it useful because it shows how kids act and how they play, where their innocence starts and ends.
Also I pointed out this one, that from my point of view is still working similar in terms of imagery use (how close ups and long wide shots Works) and also the reflection about kids behaviour.
I cannot find now the link of Byrones short film, but the feedback that Daniel and I gave to him is that we both do not like the idea of dialogue in the movie. I have always liked short films without dialogue but also, as Clifton said in the workshop, make a dialogue is a big thing (you have to make it sound naturally) so we have to make sure that it is really worthy. And I think that whatever idea we pick up from the group it could be made without dialogue, just through a good narrative. This is a visual medium after all.
So after loads of meetings and e-mails with Dimple Rajput I already have my CV ready for be spreading out through UK.
I attach it here

Kansas or the ‘Wheat State’
From the very beginning farming was the way of life of Kansas determining its politics, its culture, its social and its economy. However, at the end of the XIX century the economical crack was an inflexion point. Nowadays, farming is the 3% of the Kansas PIB with 101.000 workers, but more than 60.000 farms spread out ocuppying the 90% of Kansas.
I don’t know exactly why but I didn’t thought that there would be an specific topic for our short film. I did imagine that it would be totally free topic. However, it wasn’t that difficult to start to think about it. I had already thought about something related to it in my first months in UK indeed.
Basically, I have realized that memorial monumments, days, ceremonies, poppies…..have such a great importance here.
Maybe is because my country didn’t get realy involve in world war and suffered heavily a civil war, so that for me is easier to think that the “enemy” and “our fallens” and “their fallens” are exactly the same.
For us it is an accepttted fact that my grand father could fight in a side, and my friends grand father probably did in the other.
People who died, both sides were doing exactly the same, people.
So my first idea was to make a story that has a german soldier as a main character that during my film reach to the conclussion that there is no point in make effort remembering the war as conflict but in make effort in forgive what happen. People are so focus on not to forget and the are actually forgetting about forgiveness. So , my German solider will reach the point of leaving the past behind. He gets that point while watching his grandson playing war, he realizes that he did also play and everybody has played that, but war should be just this, a children game, where you can stand up and go home after. Looking at boy he realizes that they are both equal. There would be certain paralelism between the scene of the children playing and a scene he has lived during his soldier experience. He relives in his head what happened during war. Then the grandpa of the other boy dies and the german soldier go with his grandson to his funeral. The other boys grandpa was a british soldier in WWI too and the funeral is plenty of soldiers and they said others soldiers name of his company. All of them now dead. Looking at his grandson huggin his friend while crying. He realizes that he could be dead also, and luckily he is alive but other people are dead because of him, he realizes that there is no actual difference between one side and other.
Also I have an idea about the sexual fantasies. A women is at home and imagines in her head the sexual acts with her couple that is in war. There are cuts from one location to another, from a soldier shooting or bombing to a women lying in her bed and imaging sexual acts. It would be also possible if her partner is also a woman, it could succes inside queer theory films.
I read some time ago Digital Natives, Digital Inmigrants by Marc Prensky (2001) and it agrees in what is a digital native with the tesxts we have already read such a Born Digital, but it focus on the fact that I think is the most important: the educator are digital immigrants and they must teach people in a digital way. They are still using their immigrant way to teach some of the subjects, and it is no gonna work longer. Prensky also pointed that the first step in order to get teachers developing a digital way of teaching would be to get the support from the administrators, the universities and the government has to think about this issue and promote the ways to solve it.
According to the texts, I am a digital born just because the year I was born in. However, I do not think that digital native and digital immigrant are absolute concepts. For instance, I think I am more digital native than my older cousin is but I am also less digital native than my little cousin is. I was born in what is considered to be the digital era, but I have made myself a transition also, and I guess than everybody has to do that. I mean, technology advances so fast –in fact is getting faster and faster- that every year people start to do something using a different machine or application or software or whatever.
Basically, it is a matter of learning; you have to be continuingly learning. And that is exactly the reason why I deeply believe that learners in higher education are supposed to be better than just the rest of the people. I mean, everybody has to learn how to manage technologies and we do it basically by ourselves however I think that a learner of higher education has to dominate it, not just know basics or average level. Consequently, the responsibility relies on the teacher of higher education that has to be a total expert on the topic and be able to make the learners also experts. I guess it is the main but most difficult thing, in the past teachers prepared for a whole life to be the best in something, now you don’t have that time, you have to be an expert of something that has just appeared.
